Alternative Treatment for Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia, or AHA, is an autoimmune disease characterized by the body’s immune system attacking red blood cells and breaking them down faster than the body can replace them. This promotes the destruction of the body’s spleen. Those who have other autoimmune diseases such as lymphocytic leukemia may have a predisposition to Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. This disease can be triggered by exposure to certain drugs such as methyldopa, penicillin, or quinine.

Symptoms of Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

Symptoms include the same symptoms present in regular anemia such as shortness of breath, fatigue or malaise, rapid or increased heartbeat, pale coloring, yellowing of the skin, dark urine, and an enlargement of the spleen as a result of the breaking down of red blood cells.
