Glutathione IV and Cancer

Stop feeling helpless…you still have options!

Glutathione is a protein composed of three amino acids and is produced primarily in the liver. It’s involved in the body’s defense system, helping to neutralize harmful free radicals and eliminate toxins. It’s also involved in DNA synthesis, immunity and is a necessary component for a number of the body’s detoxification processes, as well as other processes. Higher glutathione levels have been linked to better health and longevity, while lower levels are associated with conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, cataracts, memory loss, and Parkinson’s disease.glutathione.jpg

Glutathione plays a crucial role in the body’s immune defenses. A loss of glutathione leads to an increased susceptibility to free radicals andwhile increased levels protects us from the effects of a variety of toxic substances. Glutathione, however, is difficult to absorb orally and is best administered either via aerosol administration or intravenously.

Numerous studies support glutathione supplementation for cancer patients. In addition to its antioxidant properties, immune support and detoxification, glutathione supports those patients undergoing conventional therapies.

In a Japanese trial, 3 of 6 carcinoma patients had either tumor regression or stagnation of tumor growth after glutathione therapy. In another mouse study, glutathione resulted in the regression of liver tumors and increased survival.

Glutathione offers protection against side effects of both radiation and chemotherapy. In one trial, patients receiving glutathione suffered less post-radiation therapy diarrhea and were more likely to complete their entire treatment cycle. As for chemotherapy, trials have shown that when coupled with Cisplatin, there was a significant reduction in nephrotoxicity in patients with ovarian cancer, as well as a greater tumor response. Glutathione also appears to protect patients from developing neuropathy from their chemotherapy treatments.
