Advanced Alternative Treatment for Grave's Disease
Grave’s Disease
Grave’s disease is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the thyroid, causing an enlargement of the organ and an overproduction of thyroxin—the thyroid hormone that controls the cell metabolism. It is also known as “Parry’s Disease” and “exophtalmic goiter”. It is most commonly found in women between the ages of thirty and fifty but can also develop in puberty or during pregnancy. The precise cause of Grave’s Disease is not clear but there is a hereditary link present; when an identical twin comes down with Grave’s Disease, their twin has a 25-50% chance of developing the disease as well.
Symptoms of Grave’s Disease
The symptoms of Grave’s Disease include decreased appetite, weight loss, high blood pressure, faster heartbeat, nervousness, general muscle weakness, development of a goiter at the base of the neck caused by the swelling of the thyroid, and bulging eyes—particularly prevalent in smokers. When present in women, one may see a change or the cessation of menstrual cycles.
